Yesterday I felt like a proud Mum. The speeches were fantastic, and the support from all of you and our guests for both this and the evaluation contest unparalleled (for a contest) in my time at Toastmasters.  For those of you who didn’t make it we were treated to four riveting speeches all of which demonstrated the skills that the rest of us hope to obtain. What was so impressive was the range of skills demonstrated by each of the contestants – Peter really had to work to earn his win.

Congratulations to Peter our winner for both contests, and all the contestants for both contests. You showed us all how you can really learn and improve by entering contests. You also demonstrated that its up to each of us – the more we put into the process, the more we can improve.

A special thanks to our guest judges – for taking the time during their precious lunch hours to support us.

Thanks also to our two chairs Ratna and Pauline, all those who volunteered and took a supporting role and not least the audience!

Alex Dean our esteemed VP Public Relations webmaster has come to the end of his journey at Terrace@12 Toastmaster’s club. In the short period of time that he was with the club, he motivated us with his heart-touching speeches. His enthusiasm and smile were absolutely infectious.

Alex after giving an amusing speech at Terrace@12 Toastmasters

It was his leadership and commitment that saw Terrace@12 achieve the ‘Dale Hartle’ best website award for 2011. The website was commended on having a fresh design, links to social media, useful navigation menu and news in a blog format.

We the members of Terrace@12 bid him farewell and wish him all the best for his endeavours in the future…he will be an asset to his next club, somewhere in Australia.

Hello all Members
We had our last meeting for 2011 on 7 Dec. It was a great meeting, we had Paula completing her 8th project on Green House building. It seems that Mayfair House is definitely not one of them. So if you are working in Mayfair take care to go out to enjoy the summer sun or just the pleasant warm moist breeze :)

Not two weeks ago I completed my 9th speech. And it left me stunned afterwards. I could hardly believe how well it went. For weeks I had been searching for a topic that would do the project justice. Convincing my audience and calling them to action. Nothing I came up with seemed to fit my diverse and highly intelligent audience. None of them are very technical so I had to search for gripping topics outside of my narrow Enterprise IT world.
It was Tuesday morning and I was about to despair when I read the paper and knew instantly that I had landed the jackpot. The wellywood discussion was flaring up again and final voting was about to start. Perfect ammunition to get everyone involved and push some buttons. The only dilemma was that I had less than 24 hours to write and rehearse my speech.
